State media confirmed that the killing seemed to be an assassination.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has denounced the killing “as an act of state terror”

Iran began withdrawing from its commitments to the 2015 historic nuclear deal in 2019, a year after US President Donald Trump withdrew from the agreement and imposed crippling sanctions on the country.
